The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the elements and factors of the plant lifecycle management. The Finnish forest industry has the need to know how much lifetime the production devices have left and when is the right time to take actions. In Finland, the forest industry plants are getting old so the maintainer of the fixed assets should be able to tell the owner at what stage of their lifecycle the production devices are. Forest industry spends a lot of money every year on their production facilities’ maintenance and investments. Focusing those resources on the right targets at the right time helps to keep the production facilities competitive in Finland. This will require that the lifecycle of the production devices, buildings and infrastructure needs to be known and to be managed. In this thesis the dependability has been explained and described as a part of the plant lifecycle management. Production and maintenance can, by their own actions, significantly affect the lifecycles of production devices. The lifecycle management of investments already begins in the planning phase. Those decisions and choices which are made in the investment’s planning phase will define even 80 % of the device’s lifecycle costs during its whole existence. The information about fixed assets and the mill organization management are associated with the pulp mill’s lifecycle management. The lifecycle management of Stora Enso Enocell’s pulp mill includes repairs, major repairs, replacement investments, investments and targeting development projects. Previously mentioned actions include certain factors that can be used to identify which action is the most appropriate for the fixed assets at the time....
